What are Stagefright Productions’ objectives?

Stagefright Productions have a simple two-point agenda:

  • To use local talent, wherever possible, in order to promote the range of talent available in the Chennai, and to give Chennai’s artists in music, dance, and theatre the opportunities to be compared to the best artists across the world in their respective fields.
  • To deliver high-quality shows that are comprehensively entertaining.

What has Stagefright Productions done?

Chicago - The Musical!

Chicago - The Musical!

Stagefright’s August 2009 stage production of the musical “Chicago” was the Chennai premiere of the Broadway smash musical, and the show was performed again in October of the same year. The first production was part of the fifth edition of the Hindu MetroPlus Theatre Festival, while the second performances were at the Museum Theatre in Egmore on Diwali of 2009.

A Night at the Musical - February 2009

In February 2009, Stagefright produced and presented “A Night at the Musical”, a tribute to some of the world’s most famous and loved musicals. The show featured song, dance, and theatre sequences from about 15 different musicals, and was presented at the Chinmaya Heritage Center in Chetpet.

Death and the Maiden - August 2007

For the third edition of the Hindu – MetroPlus theatre festival in August 2007, Stagefright produced and directed the award-winning play “Death and the Maiden”. It was Stagefright’s first attempt at a dramatic performance, and the show was held at Smt. Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium. Murder At The Diner - October 2006

On October 31, 2006, Stagefright held “Murder in the Diner”, Chennai’s first ever murder mystery dinner at Sparky’s Diner in Chetpet. 100 people actively participated and followed the trail of clues to discover who the murderer was. One of the most successful shows Stagefright has produced was “Five of Hearts”, an evening of five short romantic comedies, held at Smt. Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium in Mylapore on June 17 and 18, 2006.

Girl - March 2005

Stagefright staged “Girl”, a show celebrating the spirit of womanhood, on March 8, 2005, International Women’s Day, at Stella Maris College and at the Women’s Christian College in Chennai. The show combined dance, poetry, music, and theatre. Stagefright worked alongside Krishna Kumar of the Masquerade Performance Group to produce the annual Christmas play for the Mellow Circle, “A Christmas Carol” on November 27 and 28, 2004 at the Chinmaya Heritage Center.

Stagefright staged another musical, “The Sounds Of Silence”, a play based on the life of Beethoven, at the Music Academy on November 5 & 6, 2004. The show was done in collaboration with the Airports Authority of India. One of the first groups that Stagefright collaborated with was the Boardwalkers, when they jointly presented “Spoof It”, an evening of two comedies in August 2004. Stagefright directed a spoof of “Treasure Island” as part of the show.

Grease - February 2004

Grease - February 2004

The Stagefright journey started in February 2004 with their first venture, the musical “Grease”, which was staged at the Chinmaya Heritage Center on February 20 & 21, 2004. The show was a resounding success, with considerable mention in the media as a testament.       Thank you for your kind words. I am normally a stickler for good writing from others, so I try my best to be as accurate as possible myself. I’m glad you like the way I have used the site as well. I have not felt the need to invest in a website, because of the limited amount of work we do that generates revenue.
